Building knowledge about language for teaching IELTS writing tasks: A genre-based approach

As a widely used English proficiency test that includes writing component, IELTS raises pedagogical challenges require high-stake literacy skills to meet the demands of assessment criteria. Many studies on various teaching strategies for tasks in preparation courses have been conducted. However, more information about explicit instructions is needed help test-taker candidates respond effectively. This paper reports small-scale pilot project implementing new generation genre pedagogy, Reading Learn (R2L), 14 government-sponsored student at public university language center Indonesia. The aimed first identify linguistic writing, particularly Task 2. identification patterns was then design and implement intervention. Second, it mapped participants’ before after data were drawn from materials Based analysis, Writing 2 requires takers by taking one side or discussing two sides. Making such participants class helped them successfully. result their involvement intervention, participants, including those with low proficiency, demonstrated ability write coherent texts. study offered genre-based model preparing EFL students intending take tests.
